Applications are increasingly moving to the web, and HTML5 is the powerful platform that gives them the performance and capabilities of native apps.
The HTML5 Web App Hackathon is an event for developers to socialize, network, and learn. During the hackathon, we'll cover the end to end process of developing an HTML5 application, publicizing with Chrome Webstore and finally monetizing with In-App Payments.
Specifically we'll be covering the following APIs:
- Web Audio
- Web Fonts
- History
- File System
- Canvas
- App Cache
- Web Workers
- Transitions
- Chrome Web Store
- In- App Payments
After the presentation, you'll have the opportunity to hack on something of your choice alone / with a team or build on something that we'll provide. At the end of the day, teams and individuals will present what they've created and we'll vote on the best app/game. The winning team/individual will take home some awesome prize(s) - to be announced soon!
Below is the itinerary for the day:

Pete LePage Pete joined Google in 2011 as a Developer Advocate working on the Chrome Web Store team and the open web platform. He's been designing websites since his early days in high school, evolving from overlapping <blink>, <marquee> and <font>, and tags on GeoCities to properly styled CSS, managed hosted websites. Pete works with the web developer community to build awesome new web applications using open web technologies like HTML5 and CSS3. He can often be found traveling the world with his friends, seeing both exotic and ordinary sites, or in a black and white dark room printing something he shot with a film camera! |

Phillipe Beaudoin Philippe holds a Ph.D. in computer science, where he studied simulated robots. Afraid his research would lead to mechanical bipeds taking over the world, he recently turned to web development. Two years ago, he published GWT-Platform, one of the most popular open-source framework for the Google Web Toolkit. Today Philippe works with an amazing team of engineer in Google's Montreal office, where he gets a glimpse of tomorrow's web technologies.

Jesse Doherty Jesse recently completed his Master's degree in computer science at McGill university. His thesis work was part of a compiler project for the Matlab language. This work has given Jesse a deep knowledge of the semantics of the Matlab language. Unfortunately, few people actually care about this knowledge and mostly use Matlab to draw pretty graphs or because excel is too slow (a slight exaggeration). Jesse is a new member of Google Montreal and is currently working on the Chrome UI team. |
